Bored? What about a book!?
I find myself sitting down late at night being VERY bored! I usually log onto facebook, yahoo, and check my emails. Then after that im bored again!! WHAT AM I TO DO?! Well...its been a while (since winter break) since i'v been able to enjoy a good book. Yes, my friends I mean that dusty thing that sits upon your bookshelf that you never open. Books are a gateway into another world! I'v visited Seattle, Russia, Asia, New Zealand, and far away places without ever leaving my home. They take us to places where dreams can come true, where murder is only the beginning of a mysterious love story, or where vampires can love mortals! Why do so many neglect creations with such a high value? Each book is a masterpiece. It tells a story which entices all the senses. Books love anyone who opens them, and once you crack open that binding, feel the soft paper against your fingers, and smell the freshly printed pages, you know you're in for a true experience that you will soon never forget! Pull up a chair next to the fire, pour a cup of tea, cozy up with your favorite blanket and open a book next time you feel bored. Just give it a shot....see where a stack of words takes you!

Welcome back to Ohio State

WELL, as many of you know, OSU students started classes this week. I didn't want to leave the comfort of my home, my family, and the holiday cheer. Christmas this year was different because we didn't have a tree, but that didn't stop us from having a Christmas to remember. Ever since I was a kid I have gone to candlelight service on Christmas eve. It gives me a chance to really remember what the Christmas season is all about. It is the season of giving, but its also about hope, peace, family, and remembering Christ's birth. During all the busy hustle and bustle this winter, stop and take a chance to relax. Let yourself actually enjoy the snow days, warm evenings inside by the fire, and the comfort of your family.
I actually had a chance to do this and I couldn't tell you the last time I enjoyed winter. Everyone complains about how cold, wet, and miserable it is but honestly its something I now look forward to. Coming back to classes feels miserable, but I don't let it get to me, not by a long shot.

A Memorial Day, or a day for grilling?
Memorial Day weekend is a celebration that is enjoyed by many American families across the nation. Its a great to time to celebrate the beginning of summer and gill out and just enjoy the great sunny weather! Personally I always look forward to my fathers grilling, such as steaks, burgers, hot dogs, bbq grilled chicken, brats, corn on the cob...MM! You cannot forget all the amazing potato salads, macaroni salads, and the delicious summertime desserts and lemonade!
Americans in my opinion have lost the true meaning of Memorial Day. Yes its wonderful to share time with family and grill out, but do we really celebrate the day for which it was created for? Our countries veterans and active duty men and women constantly fought and are still fighting and working for us to be free and to protect us so that we can live our safe lives. Many gave up their lives just so we could spend time with our families and not worry about being or feeling unsafe. Memorial day is something that gets turned into a day of rejection instead of a day of remembrance.
In high school, my schools marching band always played for our local towns Memorial day parade. A parade to honor those who have fought and lost their lives and those that still are fighting to this day. We all honestly dreaded it just because it was the LAST performance of the year and it was usually after we have already finished our classes for the year. Honestly, I looked forward to this performance because it was my little way to give back to the community and to those veterans and active duty personnel. We would start to march at the Local VFW and head for the cemetery where the Memorial Day ceremony was held. Many people would march behind us towards the cemetery to watch the ceremony. People of all ages came to witness this. We played a couple of songs, the local reverend read a devotion to us all and there was the laying of the wreath to remember all of those men and women. Very small, very intimate, but it honestly meant a lot to me.
Growing up in a very strong based Christian and military based family, my beliefs about those to things grew very strong. My family always taught me how to respect and honor my god, my country, my troops, and my family (of course). I was raised to always respect the flag and stand when it is carried or being raised, to take my cap off, to put my hand over my heart, to sing our countries National Anthem, and to always respect those military personnel.
I had the privilege to watch a couple of my friends graduate high school over the weekend and every graduation was different except for one thing. They all either played the Star Spangled Banner, or recited the Pledge of Allegiance. At my high school alumni, we sang the National Anthem, only a few put their right hand on their hearts and only a few sang with the choir. It amazed me to see how our countries people do not know what to do when the song is played. When I went to my friends graduation, there was this young girl in front of me with (I hate the world attitude). Michael W. Smiths "I Can Only Imagine" was playing while the audience waited for the commencement to start. This girl just yelled "for real? a Christian song? Wow...how gay." I thought to myself, why didnt her mother say anything to her? I just let it go. Then when it came time for the Pledge of Allegiance, she stood there chomping her gum and twirling her hair and did not put her hand over her heart, nor did she say the Pledge. Now that was the last straw with me but I chose to say nothing.
It sickens me to see that there are still people in this world. To see someone so hateful and disrespectful do something like that in front of hundreds of people was just disgusting. What are our schools teaching these kids? I know when I was in elementary school, we had a moment of silence, said the pledge of allegiance, and we sang one patriotic song every day. Thats how I was raised. I dont know if the schools have taken that out but I know in Jr. High, I didnt have to do any of those things and i thought it was odd.
America, I challenge you this. We are the strongest country on earth and yet we still lack pride and respect. I challenge you to start to sing the SSA if you dont already. I challenge you to respect the flag and take your had off when the pledge is said, to put your hand over your heart when either one is conducted. I challenge you to think about what I have just wrote. Dont be afraid to be respectful. Its the right thing to do. You are the one that looks dorky, lame, and uncool if you dont respect and do the things you should do during those times: not the ones who are doing what they are supposed to.
America, lets remember those who fought, died, lived, and are still working and fighting up until this very second, and beyond this day. Lets give them our upmost respect today and forever because without them, you may be praying to Buddha, or be Muslim, or some other forced religion. You wont be free and safe like we are today. You wouldnt have the freedom to pray to who you want, marry who you want, live where you want, buy what you want, or go to school even or have the job you so long desire. Let us who remember help those who dont respect and choose to look like the fools!
America, lets be Americans again.

The World
Well, you all know that the world is probably just one big rock...that has its own atmosphere. It also can produce toxic gases that kill organisms. One thing the world cannot produce is human life.
Life: existence in physical world: the quality that makes living animals and plants different from dead organisms and inorganic matter.
Its functions include the ability to take in food, adapt to the environment, grow, and reproduce. There is a simple definition from a dictionary. What is the definition of life? Can it honestly be a word that has to be defined? Well, almost everyone has their own opinion about certain things and I guarantee you all that life is what you make of it. Life is what everyone that can breathe goes through. One life or many lives are linked together my something. Rather it be food, a culture, a church, a family unit, or music. Something in this world links us all together. Why are we linked together? Why must one interact with others? To be frank, I think you would be quite bored if you didnt interact! Interaction in our lives creates bonds. We share bonds through different activities or different interests. Bonds can be created through the love of sports. Teammates have a special bond with each other that allows them to become one. A team. Now, there are little things that create up a team such as friendship.
Well, friendship. What the heck is considered a friendship? Well bonds of course help create friendships. Now many of you may say that bonds are sometimes bad but yes...this is true, but dont you think that you were meant to meet everyone that you have ever met for a reason? The world is a large place, but yet it appears to be smaller than a pea. "Its a small world" many of us say when we meet someone who is "linked" somehow to us. There we go talking about bonds again...links and bonds are the same thing. The world is linked together by bonds between organisms that create friendships in lives. Woah...that was pretty wordy. Linked, bonds, friendships. Is there anything else then?
What about those of us who dont have friendships that were created by a link...well I guarantee it was. Lets say two random strangers were just walking down a bustling sidewalk. One may say there is no link to just walking down a sidwalk, but there is a link. Those two complete strangers were both walking at the same place at the same time, in the same city, on the same day. Surreal. They were linked by something..something that led them to walk someplace...that led them to clash into one another..that led to a bond...that quite possibly could later condor up a relationship between two different lives.
I guess what I am trying to say is that humans are destined to have a life that is full of different friendships. Humans are destined to run into each other. If not, how would you have met your best friend, your partner, your co workers, your boss, your kin? If life was to permit us to not have human interaction, the human race would die. Friendships are made to happen, relationships are made to happen, love is MEANT to happen. Love holds us together and without it, this whole world would not turn. Love DOES make the world go round. Even if you dont see it yet, you will. Passion is love. Athletes are passionate about what they do and that makes them happy. They LOVE doing what makes them happy. Artists LOVE singing, dancing, drawing, sculpting, playing. Families LOVE one another. Friends love their friends. Bosses love their companies.
People...we need to open our eyes and see each other in a different view. We cannot see others lives as just another human...but another bond. We need to see lives as a link to our own. When those links are created, those bonds are created, which in turn creates friendship, which in turn creates love, which in turn, makes the world turn.
Life=Love people...why dont we try to love life and then maybe we will live some love!
